Volunteer Information

Johnson County Fire District No. 2 conducts volunteer recruit academies on an as needed basis, usually once per year. Potential candidates are selected from applications that are submitted to the Fire District. Individuals must be eager to learn and possess a positive 

attitude. Volunteers must complete a recruit academy which meets once a week for approximately 4 months. Volunteer positions require individuals to spend 48 hours per month in the fire station and attend one training per month.Volunteers are eligible for participation in the firefighter’s relief association. Members also receive education pay, uniforms and bunker gear.Minimum requirements to be considered for a recruit academy are:

  • Firefighter I

  • Firefighter II

  • Haz-Mat Awareness

  • Haz-Mat Operations

  • Kansas Emergency Medical Technician

  • 18 years of age

  • Valid driver’s license
